The American, who recently hoisted the DreamHack Austin trophy, will look to continue his career elsewhere.
Keaton “Chakki” Gil will retire the black-and-yellow of Team Dignitas as he looks for a new home in professional Hearthstone. One of the pioneers of the game, Chakki went through a number of teams including ManaGrind, Clarity Gaming and Coast before landing a contract with the UK-based organization in January last year.
Since then, Chakki has grown to be one of team’s top performers. In the following year, he secured three second-plce finishes, four top fours and one top eight, building himself the reputation of the eternal runner-up, never securing a much-desired major championship. Not until last month would Chakki break that curse as he emerged the best out of 200 at DreamHack Austin.
Chakki’s departure from Dignitas puts an end to a 17-month stint with the organization. According to manager Marek Walkowiak, the parting of ways is due to Chakki’s contract coming to an end and his decision to not resign with the team.
“I will still be playing Hearthstone professionally until the competitive fire in me burns out. For now I am a free agent, but I will be looking to find a new home to support my future success in Hearthstone,” writes the player in his farewell message.
