The Canadian not only wins $12,500 but also the first points for the 2016 World Tour.
GamersOrigin coach and player Ryan “Purple” Root was one of the definite favorites for the DreamHack trophy. Even though he had a disappointing ending at the 2015 World Championship, Purple remains among the most respected players and analysts in the game and big things were expected of him upon his entrance into DHW.
At the end of the nine swiss rounds, Purple was one of the four best players with a score of 8-1 and sitting behind swiss frontrunner Frederik “Hoej” Nielsen. As he entered the playoffs on Friday evening, he needed just four more wins to pocket his second major championship in a row after his triumph at NA regionals in Burbank in October.
His run through the elimination bracket was almost surprisingly uncontested. On his way to the championship, Purple dropped exactly two games ending on a final 12-2 against Dragonalbert, AKAWonder, Greensheep and Ersee. While it was his Brann Malylock that carried him through the swiss rounds, in the playoffs Purple leaned largely on his Patron Warrior, which swept both the quarter and semi-final rounds clean.
Purple’s win banks him $12,500 but more importantly 30 valuable HWC points for next year.
