The Dane has now taken down his second big LAN event after Viagame Housecup 2 and is $5,000 richer.
His opponent in the finals, Czech player Old?ich "Faeli" Mahdal, proved to be worthy of his shot at the Gfinity trophy and didn't go down without a fight. He even got the better start in the match, getting wins with all of his three decks: Druid, Midrange Paladin and Patron Warrior. Frederik "Hoej" Nielsen on the other hand was only able to pick up a single win with his aggressive Secret Paladin deck.
Leading 3-1, Faeli now had to revive one of his decks to get a fourth and final win with it and he chose his Midrange Paladin - a decision that would come back to haunt him. Hoej managed to pick up wins with his Druid and a very top-heavy built Hybrid Hunter and then chose to revive his own Paladin for the last match of the tournament. While most of the earlier matches were very close calls, this one ended up as a blowout: There was nothing Faeli could do to stop the aggression of Hoej's faster deck, so in the end he had to concede and was handed only $2,500 instead of the big share of $5,000 which was earned by his opponent.
At this point, with a second big tournament win under his belt and other, very solid performances in the past, Hoej goes into the Regional Qualifier of the European Road to BlizzCon as one of the hottest players and is a competitor that should be looked out for.
