A piece of mail sent to the PC Gamer offices is a classic announcement of an announcement. Mark your calendars for July 22nd.
“Champions are gathering from around the world to witness the next exciting thing Hearthstone has in store. News travels far and wide in search of brave new faces ready to answer the call to arms — Are you one of them? Muster for battle and mark July 22 on your calendar. The next bit of news won’t come by carrier pigeon — thankfully, we have much better ways of communication now. Victory awaits.”
This is what the paper letter reads, coming in, apparently, a stylish tube container which played trumpets upon opening, which in many ways indicates that we’ll receive more information on upcoming Hearthstone content in less than three weeks.
Speculations are naturally already being made. The melody of the fanfares and the wording of the letter do indeed suggest that the next expansion of Hearthstone would revolve around the Argent Tournament, a world event which was introduced in Wrath of the Lich King.
World of Warcraft fans will remember that the Argent Tournament grounds were home to instance and raid encounters alike. The latter was called Trial of the Crusader and featured iconic characters like [card]Lord Jaraxxus[/card], Anub'arak and the Twin Val'Kyr as raid bosses.
If Blizzard follows the adventure-set-adventure cycle, the next expansion should be a major set, akin to Goblins vs. Gnomes. The aforementioned launched in December 8th, introduced 123 new collectible cards and was Hearthstone’s first major injection of content, following the previous 30-card set Curse of Naxxramas.
So if the date of the announcement is July 22nd, when is the expansion actually coming? If GvG is any indication, we might very well see it in August as the previous big set came just a month after its announcement at BlizzCon.
