Khauros and Felix are the winners of the first and second Tavern Brawl Opens, but what did they play?
The first ever Tavern Brawl weekend is in the books and everyone had hell of a fun (we hope). In the end, we ended up having two different sets of rules for the Saturday cup and the Sunday cup. The Saturday one allowed all classes and all cards and, to no surprise, Mage ruled supreme. The few brave hearts which brought Warlock, or Hunter, or Paladin, were evaporated.
After several Mage mirrors, Khauros was victorious. Running a fairly standard [card]Flamewaker[/card] mage with teched in [card]Violet Teacher[/card] and [card]Echoing Ooze[/card]s for banana synergy, the Dane did not drop a single game up until the grand finals. This is what he ran:
After seeing so many Mage mirrors on Saturday, today we decided to retire the class completely and we saw a lot of variety. Three different classes were used by the top four finalists, the line-up being Warlock, Shaman and two Paladins.
In the top semi final, Felix from Germany won with his Warlock against Blu3Lithium’s Paladin, a deck which ran double [card]Solemn Vigil[/card], abusing the minion-trade nature of the brawl. In the bottom semi final, a couple of unfortunate disconnects eliminated Leobjorkman’s Giant/Windfury Shaman and it was a Warlock vs Paladin grand final between Felix and Noget.
It was a nail-biting series but ultimately Felix dominated, barring Denmark from taking back-to-back Brawl championships. This is his Zoo:
There will be more Tavern Brawl Opens next week, as we’re preparing to migrate the circuit on the NA servers as well. Registrations will open on Tuesday, so make sure to tell your friends and have them sign up. It’s going to be amazing days of Tavern sparring.
