Hearthstone’s second appearance at the Finnish festival comes with a substantially increased prize pool.
Blizzard’s card game is ready to go to Finland’s premier esports festival Assembly. And the end of July, the Helsinki convention center will play host to two Blizzard game competitions, Hearthstone and StartCraft 2 with a cumulative prize pool of $40,000. T
$25,000 of those will be put towards the Hearthstone purse. This means that, not counting the Finnish IeSF qualifiers also held at Assembly grounds, Hearthstone has climbed to the point where it already pays better than an esport which has been a regular at Assembly since 2011. The CCG phenomenon sees a massive increase in its prize pool compared to the previous Assembly appearance in January when sixteen players then fought for mere $4,100. In the end, LowLandLions’ Teun “Vortex” Eielts ran away with the trophy, leaving Filip “Numberguy” Samuelsen as second and Janne “Savjz” Mikkonen in third.
The reason for the upgraded prize pool is apparent – Assembly Summer will be a BlizzCon points event on the same level as Viagame HouseCup and ESL Legendary Series. Compared to those two, however, Assembly Summer will be a larger, featuring 32 players, half of which will be invited and the other half coming through open qualifiers.
The format is a straightforward one, featuring two double elimination group stages into single elimination playoffs. All games will be Bo5 Conquest with the exception of the Bo7 grand finals.
More details about the invites will be coming in the future weeks before the tournament kicks off July 30th.
