The winners of the last two big offline events and the former StarCraft 2 progamers have been announced as the first three players for the upcoming second edition of Battle of the Best. The tournament will keep the same format and same prize pool and will arrive on streams December 6-7.
The first Battle of the Best crowned IHU’s Daniel “Dtwo” Ikuta king as the Japanese player – currently in the run for the World Championship trophy – defeated Sebastian “Forsen” Fors twice on the night of October 26th and took $1,000 on his trip to BlizzCon next weekend.
Now, the boys behind the tournament brand are preparing a new edition with another eight players and another $2,000 in prize money, to be streamed during the first week of December. ThijsNL, Savjz and Sjow have been confirmed to participate so far.
Savjz and ThijsNL come in as some of the heaviest hitters in Hearthstone, riding a big momentum as far as recent results are confirmed. The Team Liquid Finn cashed the $10,000 of SeatStory Cup 2 mid-October, going undefeated through the entire tournament and finishing off eSuba’s Mirrari 5-1 on the back of a Malygod Rogue. ThijsNL, on the other hand, is elevated from his DreamHack Bucharest victory just this last weekend. The MYM ace was seeded in the top 16 group stage where wins against Xellos and Flesh moved him onwards. What followed was the stomping of Max (3-0 in the QF) and Ekop (3-1 in the semi finals) before ThijsNL took the dramatic grand final over Gaara (4-3).
As for Sjow, this will be another chance for the Swede to put together a decent tournament run. The ex StarCrafter barely missed the SeatStory Cup 2 playoffs and was stopped at the Deck Wars S2 semi finals by Koyuki and is still looking for his first tournament win.
