WEC 2014 becomes TidesofTime versus Korea affair

Drew "TidesofTime" Biessener will have to go through either of the two Koreans remaining in WEC 2014 if he's to win the $32,500 first place prize. The losers final clash between Surrender and RenieHouR will determine his opponent.

It's been a good weekend for the Tempo Storm ace. Going undefeated through the winners bracket, TidesofTime is now guaranteed at least $13,000 for his three days in China.

To his fans's disappointment, the American played all of his WEC matches on stream. In round 1, Tides was paired with the winner of the Korean qualifier Surrender in what he later said was the hardest series for the tournament for him. What followed, however, were clean sweeps against former two-times GosuRankings #1 player Rdu and Korea runner-up RenieHouR, which made for an effortless journey to the grand finals.

Tides will now have to fight his way though either of the Koreans if he's to be crowned champion. Surrender is coming into the losers final on the back of a great win streak against Darkwonyx, ChinaYLD and Fuoliver (all defeated 3-1) and will face his compatriot in a few minutes time. The series record between the two is tied at 1-1 and the Koreans are looking forward to an important tie-breaker, one which could potentially bring them a $32,000 cheque.

The current WEC standings also mean that all European and Chinese representatives have been eliminated. Darkwonyx went out in the first round of the losers bracket and was followed by Rdu in round two, who dropped a quick game one against Fuoliver with Handlock against Backspace Rogue and was in a disadvantage the entire series.

The Chinese had a longer life in the tournament compared to the Europeans, which is arguably the surprise of the tournament. World Elite's ChinaYLD survived until round 2 of the losers bracket but his fellow compatriot Fuoliver of team Yolo Miracle made it all the way to losers round 3, before getting beaten down by Surrender's Druid.
