DreamHack is more than doubling the prize pool for Hearthstone compared to their debut event and is putting up $25,000 for the Summer tournament June 14-16.
It is confirmed - DreamHack will continue to invest in Hearthstone as a second event will come mid June. With $25,000 on the line - more than double compared to Bucharest's $10,000 - DreamHack Summer is not the biggest event in Hearthstone history.
Hearthstone professionals will be happy to see that the format has been changed for the new event. A 128-man double elimination live qualifier will be held to determine the top four players who will join the twelve seeds in the main event. Said main tournament will be a 16-man dual tournament group stage with half of that player pool advancing to the single elimination playoffs.
Without a doubt, this will bring new layers of excitement and make the competition less volatile, something which is almost a must for a card game like Hearthstone. The Bucharest debut saw the entirety of the players being thrown in a single elimination bracket, which meant a bad draw or two would lead to getting ousted from the tournament, a fate which befell many popular streamers and high ranked players.
Several notable players have already tweeted about their participation at the premier event.
