After the announcement of two direct invites yesterday, two more teams have been confirmed for ESL One Genting 2018.
Yesterday we learned that both Virtus.pro and Team Liquid were granted the first of ten direct invites to ESL One Genting 2018, coming to us from Malaysia early next year. Today we saw two more teams receive their direct invites to the event, namely Newbee and Mineski. Another 6 invites are still to be sent out while the regional qualifiers for the remaining 6 non-invited spots get underway in just over a week.
Newbee
Newbee have been playing some of their best Dota 2 in a long time with this season; after a fantastic 2nd place finish at The International 7, the team have seen a barrage of 2nd and 3rd place finishes at Minor and Major tournaments, up until their brilliant 1st place finish at The Perfect World Masters Minor. Their dominating performance at the recently ended Minor secured the 4th spot for them in the Dota 2 Pro Circuit points rankings, a short way behind both Team Liquid and Team Secret.
Mineski
Mineski had an amazing start to the season, finding a 2nd place finish at the StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 3, before taking the top spot at the PGL Open Bucharest. Both these Dota 2 Minors secured the team a lot of opportunities to excel, but a poor performance at last week’s Perfect World Masters Minor may have set them back a bit. Sitting in 5th on the Dota 2 Pro Circuit Rankings, Mineski will be hoping to end 2017 on a high and move to Genting 2018, ready to take the spoils.
ESL One Genting 2018
After an extremely successful event in 2017, ESL One returns to Genting from January 26th-28th 2018, bringing with it Malaysia’s first ever Dota 2 Minor. 16 teams from around the globe will descend on the amazing Arena of Stars in Genting’s Highlands Resort and battle for a total prize pool of $400,000 and 400 Pro Circuit Points. While the regional qualifiers will see 6 teams making their way through to the main event, 10 more will be through direct invites – 4 of which have now been secured by Team Liquid, Virtus.pro, Mineski and Newbee.
Mineski are the only team invited this far that are not taking part in the currently ongoing DreamLeague Season 8 Major but more ESL One Genting invites will surely be revealed throughout the weekend.
