We are one year and almost six months after Valve introduced the matchmaking rating and since then “what’s your MMR” became a frequent question. Starting from today there is just one person who can answer “over eight thousands”, namely Aliwi "w33" Omar.
After sitting on top of the leader boards with ~7900 for a while, he reached 8001 earlier today and we had a quick chat with him right after he finished his stream. The interview was conducted via Skype by Andreea "divushka" Esanu.
Hi there and GZ for being the first 8 k MMR world-wide
Hey, thank you.
Was it hard to get to 8K ?
Not that hard at all. It’s really easy actually when I’m streaming and my focus is on viewers, if this makes any sense at all.
Did you spam certain heroes to get here? What’s your key to success in pubs?
There are no heroes better than the others in order to win pubs. Some heroes are being played often in the competitive scene and they become flavor of the month but you can win with any hero if you are good with it.
True story, but if I would ask your viewers what are your signature heroes they will say Meepo and Skywrath Mage.
I’m not playing much Meepo lately and when I do it’s all for the viewers and it doesn’t mean he is a very good hero to win games in general. Skywrath is one of the most fun heroes in the game, and yes he is my favorite and I enjoy playing it.
What was the main drive for you to get on top of the leader boards world-wide?
The Xcalibur story. He was noticed and picked by Fnatic last year because he was having the highest MMR in the world and he got the chance to go to ESL One, The Summit and The International 4 with them. Since that happened, I decided I will do everything needed to get myself in a top tier team.
So, last year, around TI you were actually on top of the leader boards with 7k plus, then you dropped a bit and now you are back. Did that influenced your professional career in any way?
I think I was on top for 95% of the time since I got there for the first time but I was not shown on the actual leader boards because I was busy with other games or leagues and I didn’t had the games needed in order to be present on the leader boards. And no, being 1st had no impact on my career.
Right now you are in 4 Clover & Lepricon with Wagamama, egm, Sexybamboe, Vanskor, so big names with huge potential, right?
Yup we actually won the first 3 tournaments we participated in (Esportal Open, Gigabyte Challenge and MSI Dragon Battle) so the future looks bright.
Alright w33 I won’t take much from your time, any shout-outs?
Shout-out to my bro who was always there for me.
Thx for your time and keep up that MMR
I sure will.
