The final major of the year has come to end: EnVyUs have proved they are one of the best as they have defeated Natus Vincere 2-0 in the grandfinals of Dreamhack Open Cluj-Napoca.
The first map, de_train, started off miserably for the Ukrainians as they began their t side. After losing the pistol, EnVyUs didnt let up to bring the scoreline to 7:0 with an especially strong performance from nV’s Kenny “kennyS” Schrub. Natus Vincere picked themselves and returned six rounds of their own, and the two titans went back and forth for a 9:6 half.
The run for Na’Vi followed them into their CT half as well, netting them a pistol round win that brought the score to 11:9 for them. The frenchmen regained their footing however and pulled out three rounds of their own; this prompted Na’Vi to take a tactical timeout, which ended up turning the tide back in their favor for round, but they were quickly shut down the next. nV managed to bring the score up to 15:13, and although Na’Vi nearly brought it into overtime, Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovacs was unable to clutch the last round against two remaining EnVy players, ending the map 16:14 for the boys in blue.
Things looked grim for Natus Vincere on de_cobble, where they were almost instantly obliterated on the pistol by apEX, who picked up a 4K on the B site entry. the aggression continued to 6:0 where it looked like it would be easy four-versus-two from Na’Vi until Nathan “NBK” Schmitt came up big for his team with an ace to pick up the round. Even with that crushing loss, Na’Vi managed to bounce back for two rounds until they were shut down once again. Incredibly, in the eleventh round, Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovacs came in with a clutch of his own, winning a 1v3 with glass cannon buy to break EnVy’s economy for two rounds, but they quickly continued to rack up the rounds after the ecos for a 10:5 scoreline.
The second half was even worse than the first for Na’Vi, as EnVyUs continued to just bulldoze every attempt the Ukrainians made to take either of the sites. A few rounds came close for them but the sheer pressure of EnVy’s star lineup proved to great, and EnVy managed to clinch the map 16:5 and take the major title.
