If you ever have had the hots for MOBA games, maybe now’s the time to try out Blizzard’s own. With the launch of Heroes of the Storm 2.0, you can now team up with friends to earn cosmetic items in Overwatch.
Blizzard loves mixing Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch. Recently, they relaunched their MOBA with a few changes and the release of Genji in the game. With it, they also released an event which should interest Overwatch players: The Nexus Challenge 2.0. This event will run for four weeks, releasing a new tier of rewards each week. The first week started with HotS 2.0’s release yesterday, and gives Overwatch players a second chance to earn the Oni Genji skin that was featured in a previous Nexus Challenge as well. Here’s how it works:
Play at least five games with one friend or more to unlock the rewards. During the first week, you can complete these five games in play vs. AI, quick match, ranked or unranked. The three other weeks, according to Blizzard’s own post, you cannot play vs. AI to get rewarded. Let’s take a closer look at the rewards for each week:
- Week 1: Oni Genji skin, icon and spray in Overwatch. (Oni Genji portrait, spray and Orochi Hovercycle mount and banner in HotS.)
- Week 2: Officer D.Va skin in Overwatch. (Busan Police Hovercycle mount in Heroes of the Storm.)
- Week 3: Officer D.Va icon and spray in Overwatch. (Overwatch Nexagon mount, Officer D.Va portrait, spray and banner in HotS.)
- Week 4: 10 loot boxes in both Overwatch and HotS.
But you don’t need to play five games each week. The first week’s challenge does not disappear after that week, so you have the entire four weeks’ time to complete all the games. Heroes of the Storm is free to play and downloadable here, where you can read more about the game and the Nexus Challenge.
If you play Overwatch on console and own a computer, you will need to connect your Blizzard account with your console Overwatch account to earn rewards. (This is done by logging into Battle.net and cruising towards Account Management.) Don’t own a computer at all? Or do you just don’t want to play HotS? Well, in a forum post, game developer Jeff Kaplan explained that they “…plan to add both the Oni Genji skin and the Officer D.Va skin to the normal, base Overwatch loot boxes at some point in the future.”
