Competitive Overwatch Weekend Recap 18/19/20 March - Some experimentation popping up

Over the past weekend we saw quite a few tournaments in the competitive Overwatch scene. Don't worry if you missed some of the action, we got you covered with a recap of the tournaments and show matches that happened during that time!

Friday- King of the Watch #5

King of the Watch #5 returned again Friday, this time with an NA vs EU match: mixup challenged IDDQD. As always, the match was a Bo7 so plenty of different maps had to be played.

The first map was actually a Control map: Nepal. IDDQD has been dominant in the scene these past weeks, but they also try to avoid Control maps whenever possible. mixup managed to win the first map quite confidently, staying in control of the second round point throughout.

Gotta get out of there!

Unfortunately for mixup, that was to be the highlight of their night because IDDQD managed to win the next 4 maps in a row through smart play and team coordination. IDDQD gets to call them King of the Watch for at least one more week.

Saturday - GosuGamers EU Weekly #8

Week 8 of our GosuGamers events, how far we've come. With so many events under our belt we have following a lot of the same teams for months now. Week after week it is a surprise how most of the bracket will resolve. Of course IDDQD was present again, and we expect them to reach the finals, but the tier of teams just below team is amazingly wide. This Saturday, G2 eSports surprised all of us after not doing too great over the past few weeks. They defeated mixup (2-1) but sadly had to face IDDQD in their Semi-Finals.

On the other side of the bracket, #FlatEarth and REUNITED were the most recognizable teams. They've now played each other a number of times, and the matches are always tense. This time around REUNITED managed to take the win 2-0 after a close match on Lijiang Tower. Unfortunately they were not able to stunt against IDDQD, and IDDQD took home yet another title.

That´s what you get when you build in windows.

Sunday - GosuGamers NA Weekly #8

We had another great, stacked Weekly this Sunday. IDDQD was sadly missing due to some players not being available, but at the same time we were able to enjoy teams like Cloud9, mixup, EnVyUs and G2.

Round 1 went as one would expect, with the top contenders being spread out just right. Round 2 was home to a (to some) surprising win by Code7 over G2. Round 3 however, was very exciting with 2 very close matches. We already highlighted the C9 vs mixup match, but EnVyUs vs Code7 is also one you should check out:

Game 1 was a clear win for Code7, but that made games 2 and eventually 3 even the more exciting. Both teams frequently made use of the Orb-ital Destruction composition, in fact the majority of the game time was a mirror match filled with Tracers, Zenyattas, Symmetras and Lucio. EnVyUs' experience made the difference in the end though.

For the final series of mixup - EnVyUs, Numbani again proved to be a weak map for EnVyUs. Dorado was the map where mixup tried the newly-buffed Zarya to potentially counter the offense of EnVyUs. It did not prove enough however. Through some more interesting compositions from EnVyUs' side (4x Winston/3x Soldier: 76) EnVyUs eventually won Watchpoint: Gibraltar for a 4-1 score and the First Place finish.
