While he is best known for his work in cinema, Tony Todd was also a voice actor in many video games including Dota 2.
American actor Tony Todd, who lent his voice to Dota 2 heroes Dragon Knight, Night Stalker, Viper, and many other video game characters, has died after a long illness, according to the Hollywood Reporter. He was 69 years old.
Todd was best known for his work in cinema over his 40-year career, with two of his most prolific roles being in the Candyman and Final Destination horror franchises. Some of his other movie and TV credits include Night of the Living Dead, Frankenstein, Requiem, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Flash and more.
Todd has also dipped his toes into the videogame industry as a voice actor. Aside from his roles as Dragon Knight, Night Stalker, and Viper in Dota 2, he also voiced the Emberwurm Slyrak in the Dota: Dragon's Blood anime and the Davion of Dragon Hold voice pack. Todd also appeared in Valve Software's vaunted Half-Life series as the voice of the Vortigaunts in Half-Life 2: Episode Two and Half-Life: Alyx.
Todd also voiced Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Admiral Tony Briggs in Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Locus in the upcoming Bethesda game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, among various other titles.Â
Unfortunately, Todd is now the fourth Dota 2 voice actor to have passed away, after Barry Dennen (Chaos Knight, Phantom Lancer, Rubick), Sam Mowry (Anti-Mage, Beastmaster, Clockwerk, Necrophos, Slardar, Warlock, the Shopkeeper), and Jim French (Elder Titan).
