Nintendo's final trailer for the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel is its best one yet.Â
Nintendo has released The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s final trailer, which finally digs into the meat of the game’s story - from Zelda and Link’s separation to Ganondorf’s mysterious revival. We also see never-before-seen abilities that Link now has at his disposal, and all-new characters he might have to face down during his journey.Â
Watch the trailer below:
There is a lot going on in this trailer. The cinematic cutscenes that we see hint that Link and Zelda are once again separated, with the latter trapped somewhere Link can’t reach within the realm of Hyrule yet. That’s actually saying a lot, considering he really cuts loose in this game. Not only can Link now travel across land and the skies above Hyrule where floating islands reside, but he has a host of new abilities to use in traversal and combat.Â
Although some time seems to have passed since the events of the first game, Link’s friends return in this trailer somewhat grown up. Riju is a little bit older and Prince Sidon appears to fight with Link during a cutscene, and we see a few climactic Hyrule Warriors-style team ups as Link and several of his allies go against Ganon’s forces. Said forces might include three-headed Hydra monsters too, so best of luck to them.Â
Speaking of Ganon, he’s back! The longtime Legend of Zelda villain returns in Tears of the Kingdom in fully rehydrated glory, voiced by Matthew Mercer of Critical Role fame. We see several other new faces in the trailer as well, from an elf-like woman with golden locks to an enigmatic character staring into the camera ominously with goat-like ears. Friends or foes? We’ll have to wait and see.Â
Even when you’re not pursuing the main story campaign to see how all this stuff with Ganondorf shakes out, it’s clear that Tears of the Kingdom is going to be a fun time. Link’s new fusing abilities offer plenty of sandbox opportunities to create gadgets and weapons all across Hyrule, and we might see a return to the franchise’s more traditional dungeons that make use of these new mechanics.Â
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches on May 12, on the Nintendo Switch.Â
