Day 2 of Seattle's preliminaries is finished: Time for an update on the hero scores. After 96 of 112 matches in the group phase played, statistical circumstances are getting less important.
Monday's best and worst performing heroes (meaning the wins and losses they had resulting in more or less success) are entirely different to Sunday. While Invoker and Lone Druid had a bad start into the tournament, their second day was much better. They are leading the Monday table with +7 and +6 scores. Rubick has made it into the most successful heroes once again, this time "only" with +4 score.
For Broodmother, this second day was a disaster, after only 2 wins out of 10 matches, she is at the very bottom of the ranking. Lycanthrope has dropped from a 7-1 on the first day to a 1-4 score on the second day, compensating what was yesterday sometimes called as imbalanced. Overall, more heroes were used (59 instead of 56), and the variety in success has reduced (+8/-8 on Sunday to +7/-6 on Monday).
Most/Least successful heroes (only Day 2) | ||||
# | Hero | Wins | Losses | +/- |
1 | Invoker | 18 | 11 | +7 |
2 | Lone Druid | 13 | 7 | +6 |
3 | Shadow Shaman | 9 | 4 | +5 |
4 | Rubick | 11 | 7 | +4 |

# | Hero | Wins | Losses | +/- |
58 | Tidehunter | 9 | 14 | -5 |
59 | Broodmother | 2 | 8 | -6 |
Concerning the mot banned heroes, visible trends have been confirmed. Naga Siren still is the most banned hero, she is banned in more than 90 percent of the games. Lycanthrope has surpassed Dark Seer for position two and Rubick overtook Chen for position six in banning ranking.
Most banned heroes | ||
# | Hero | Bans (max. 96) |
1 | Naga Siren | 89 |
2 | Lycanthrope | 80 |
3 | Dark Seer | 77 |
4 | Broodmother | 56 |
5 | Nature's Prophet | 54 |
6 | Rubick | 50 |
7 | Chen | 49 |
Stability is also the right word for picked heroes. Venomancer keeps being the most picked hero, if you look on both days together. However, Invoker has caught up a lot and reduced the gap to just one match. He might be the most played hero of the whole group phase of The International 2012.
Most picked heroes | ||
# | Hero | Picks (max. 96) |
1 | Venomancer | 55 |
2 | Invoker | 54 |
3 | Leshrac | 50 |
4 | Morphling | 48 |
5 | Tidehunter | 45 |
If you look on both days together, all 96 matches of the group phase that are already played, Rubick keeps beeing the most successful hero. He has now taken part in 28 wins and only 16 losses, accounting for a +12 difference. He is followed by Bounty Hunter, who keeps getting more wins than losses.
At the very bottom of the ranking, it's both Enigma and Broodmother suffering during this tournament. Both of them have a -9 rating, especially Broodmother with just 4 wins out of 17 matches doesn't look good.
Interpreting these statistics, is everyone's own task. Here are two ways to see it: Either teams that play successful heroes go up in the ranking, or teams that go up in the ranking play successful heroes. It's your choice.

Overall, 61 out of the 90 heroes available have been played at The International so far. Which more exotic heroes would you like to see until Sunday?
Tomorrow, we will see the last two matches of each team, followed by eventual tie-breaker matches. This will expand the database for non-knockout matches to at least 112 matches before the playoffs start on Friday.
