MPL Malaysia concludes investigation of Bountee Esports' match-fixing

MPL Malaysia concluded their investigation of alleged match-fixing involving Bountee Esports' players, and one member was punished.

MPL Malaysia stated they have already concluded their investigation of alleged match-fixing involving Bountee Esports. One player, in particular, was found guilty of said charge, and MPL Malaysia will give a proper punishment.

Nik “Dominus” Muhyyiddin was found guilty of breaching clause 12.2.14 from MPL Malaysia's Rulebook, which read: “No Team Member may offer, agree, conspired, or attempt to influence the outcome of a Game or Match by any means that are prohibited by law or these Rules.”

The rule is supported by the National Esports Development Guideline (NESDEG), introduced by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) in 2023, particularly Chapter 3, which read: "Prohibits all forms of fraud, manipulation, and corruption in esports activities.

The substitute midlaner for Bountee Esports is punished with a one-year ban on all competitions, including MPL Malaysia, MLBB Academy League, and any tournament endorsed by MOONTON Games. The punishment will last for a year, starting from April 18, 2024, until April 18, 2025.

Bountee Esports, meanwhile, was found not committed to any infringement regarding the case. The team, however, has committed to strengthening its operations and management in cooperation with the league.

Below is part of the official statement of MPL Malaysia regarding the case:

The league has concluded our investigation into the allegations involving Bountee Esports and its members. Based on the evidence presented by all parties, the results are as follows:

1. Nik "Dominus" Muhyyiddin attempted to engage in match-fixing and offered financial incentives to two Bountee Esports players to throw a match. These are severe violations of integrity and professionalism.

2. Bountee Esports was not found to have committed any infractions. However, the team has committed to strengthening its operations and management in cooperation with the league.”

MPL Malaysia stated that they will redouble their efforts on team engagements to ensure that the players are cared for and increase education on good practices and values for teams to foster safe, healthy, and respectful sporting environments for their members.

The case of match-fixing in MPL Malaysia wasn't a good look by any means, especially knowing the fact that Malaysia will host the M6 World Championships. With Bountee Esports's Case, it is hoped that no such case will happen again.
