Another MPL season comes to a close, as ONIC Esports stand firm to become the champions of Indonesia once again.
An epic but gruelling few days of action from the Mobile Legends Professional League’s twelfth season in Indonesia has come to an end with the grand finals culminating the playoffs. We saw the likes of 
Rex Regum Qeon and 
Bigetron Alpha fall by the wayside, and in the end, only two teams remain: 
ONIC Esports and 
Geek Fam ID. Having already met during the playoffs, with an intense series, the two teams battled today to become champions of their region – while both will fly the ID flag high when the M5 World Championship comes around in December 2023.
The three-peat becomes a reality
Coming into the series, GFID were the one team that seemed able to put a dent in the ONIC unsinkable ship, but in the first two games of the series, they were far off the mark. The team seemed uncoordinated in the early periods, which never allowed them really to find their way back into these games. ONIC took a 2-0 lead with ease, leaving GFID to pick up the pieces as the best-of-seven series continued.
While ONIC did win the next game to go 3-0 up, GFID finally found their footing in the next game, managing to take a solid victory in only 14-minutes. Leaving only a single kill to the reigning champions, GFID seemed to suddenly have a chance to make the ultimate comeback and turns things around, which they proved in the next game.
In the early period of game five, ONIC took a commanding lead, absolutely dominating their opponents at every turn. Just when it seemed as all hope was lost, GFID took advantage of ONIC’s over-extension and began the turnaround. With each and every member playing a vital role, GFID clawed another game back, as they finally looked to have an understanding of the Yellow Porcupine’s drafts.
Unfortunately for Geek Fam, after they did everything in their power to make the reverse sweep a possibility, ONIC were just far too strong. In what would be the final game of the series, GFID was just unable to make their draft work in their favour, as ONIC were able to control the map and the objectives. Even with a valiant defence, GFID eventually had nothing more to give and the reigning champions took their rightful place atop Indonesia’s MLBB standings.
With that, ONIC Esports became the MPL ID Season 12 champions, claiming their third victory in a row at the event. For Geek Fam ID, their second-place finish is nothing to be scoffed at, as the team put on a magnificent show to reach the upper echelons, as both teams will be back to fight at the M5 World Championship later this year.
