After a short break, MPL MY returns this week for its playoffs stage and to crown a champion for Season 11.
Mobile Legends Professional League in Malaysia completed its Regular Season on April 16, with the surprising exit of Team HAQ from the event – while Team Secret also found themselves on the outskirts of the playoff stage. On April 27, the playoffs will kick off with two gruelling play-in elimination series, both of which will be a best-of-three series. With HomeBois and Red Giant Esports already awaiting in the Upper Bracket Quarter-Final, and Team SMG andd TODAK getting a pass straight through into the Upper Bracket Semi-Finals, the first two series will be crucial for teams to get a good handle on the playoffs.
RED and RSG
RED Esports Malaysia and RSG Slate Malaysia will be the first two teams to take to the Land of Dawn, as they attempt to avoid an early elimination. Considering their meeting during the Regular Season, RED dominated, with Karrie, Lolita, and Yve leading the way for the team. However, even with that win, the two teams ended things quite close to one another, meaning that this should be a good test of each team’s game knowledge having come this far. With that said, RED could even have made their way into the top four in a final-day tiebreaker – but could not manage to overcome the “other red team” (Red Giant Esports).
RSG, having recently watched their Singaporean squad take the tri-peat championship in their own region, will be hoping to find their way through to the next round and conquer Malaysia too, but if RED get their hero choices, they will not get far.
Lunatix and Madness
In recent times, the teams coming up from the qualifiers in MPL MY have done extremely well, like Team HAQ who became a truly fearsome force for a short period. Madness Esports (and the previously mentioned Red Giants Esports) have followed in this path and will be looking to continue forward – knocking out one of the previous season’s qualifiers, Team Lunatix. The two teams last met in the opening week of Season 11, with Lunatix narrowly taking the win – utilising Beatrix and Franco to get their way.
Although Lunatix did have a better Regular Season, it was not enough to take them into the upper bracket right from the start of playoffs, which means that they will have to hope for the same performance in the play-in stage. With much more to play for, Madness could drive through to the next round, but nothing will be easy in the MPL MY playoffs.
MPL MY Season 11 begins its playoffs on Thursday, 27th April, with the grand finals coming our way on Sunday, April 30th. There is a very high chance that TODAK and Team SMG will just cruise into the grand finals, as the two teams have had a superb season, but either one could end up as the champion – and claim their spot at MSC 2023.
