G2 Esports and Fnatic secure its spots to the Mid-Season Invitational after the LEC Spring Split.

The LEC has finalised its participants for the upcoming Mid-Season Invitational as both G2 Esports and Fnatic will represent the region in Chengdu, China next month. The two teams faced off in the grand finals, which G2 won rather convincingly to make it its 13th LEC title overall as well as its second in a row for the 2024 season.

This has also been G2's third straight LEC title after winning last season's Summer Split, which puts them just one shy away from equalling its record of four straight regional titles in a row. Aside from G2, the only other teams to hold such an accomplishment are Team Liquid from the LCS as well as Gen.G Esports from the LCK.

G2's road to winning its second LEC title of the year was by no means a walk in the park as it was a four-way tie for the top spot in the regular season of the spring split. This saw the likes of Fnatic, Team Vitality, G2, and Team Heretics all qualify to the playoffs alongside Team BDS, GIANTX, MAD Lions KOI, and SK Gaming.

And it was in the playoffs that many got to see the true strength of G2 as they absolutely manhandled the competition. After making lightwork of MAD in the upper bracket quarter-finals, G2 and Fnatic would meet for the first time in the playoffs semifinals that saw the former get the upper-hand in a crushing 2-0 display before trouncing Team BDS in the upper bracket final to book the first of two spots to MSI.

But despite getting dropped to the lower bracket at the hands of G2 early on, Fnatic was able to make the arduous climb through the lower bracket. And it was there that they were able to take down the likes of Team Heretics, Team Vitality, and Team BDS to not only set up a rematch, but also take the second and final slot to MSI.

Unfortunately, Fnatic were unable to get their revenge against the team that sent them to the lower bracket in the first place. Despite winning the first game in the best-of-five series, G2 was able to rally together and take the next three games in a row to seal its 13th LEC Spring Split title in style.

This included a penta kill for Steven “hans sama” Liv in the fourth and final match of the series that also saw G2 take down the Nexus via backdoor. Rasmus “Caps” Winther also walked away with the Spring Split Finals MVP trophy after leading G2 to its second LEC title for the season.
