Russian Dmitry Gromov, chip leader at the start of the final table, wins the 2011 World Poker Tour-Vienna main event for €447,840. The final table was streamed across the internet featuring the commentary of Mike Sexton and Jesse May with a 30 minute delay but showing hold cards. Any witness to the final table wouldn't challenge the notion that Gromov is a true Russian river boat gambler.
Gromov moved his chips like no other player at the final table. At one point he doubled up a couple short stacks to briefly fall out of the lead. Maxim Kolosov played particularly well in the later stages, reading his opponents quite accurately, but fell in heads up play when his 8's couldn't outrace Gromov's A,10.
It was learned that Maxim Kolosov is involved with Natalia Nikitina who won the last WPT event in Paris. Certainly a new power couple in poker.
There were 555 players entered in the main event of the WPT - Vienna, many of whom will head down the road 45 minutes to the WPT Bratislava tournament.
