Brazilian Murilo Figueiredo beat the largest ever Latin American Poker Tour field, 621 players, to take the title in the Chilean seaside city of Viña del Mar. The $1,100 buy-in LAPT Chile National Poker Championship drew 351 entrants on it's first Day 1, and another 270 on it's second Day 1.
The LAPT - Chile event bested the previous record of 536 set at the last LAPT in Sao Paulo.
Despite having canceled last year's event due to the Chilean earthquakes, players from 20 countries poured in to play this year.
In an interesting twist, Chilean Alex Manzano won in Brazil, while Brazilian Gigueiredo won in Chile, collecting $146,000 in the process.
Notables who didn't make it through the first Day 1 included Nacho Barbero, Humberto Brenes, Gualter Salles and Alex Gomes.
In another positive sign for the growth of the LAPT, people from 20 different countries showed up for the event.
Last year, when the event was canceled, PokerStars.net sponsored a special Poker for Chile charity event that helped raise $200,000 for earthquake aid.
The next LAPT even is scheduled for April 13-17 in Lima, Peru.
