The first game of the day was on Tal'Darim Altar between oGsSuperNoVa and PoltPrime.WE. SuperNoVa applied great pressure with blue-flame Hellion drops; this allowed him to take the lead economy-wise. However, despite having Seige Tank tech and a large economic lead, he was pushed back by Polt's MMM army every time he tried to push out. Eventually, he did indeed push out and lose both his main army and the foothold that he had in the center of the map. Despite slower tech and a smaller economy, Polt managed to push SuperNoVa all the way back and take the game.
The second game was on Crossfire. Polt stayed with the strategy of building a bio army against a Marine and tank push by SuperNoVa. Both players were content with small harassments at first, but Polt would take a gold expansion that forced SuperNoVa to move out. It was at that time that Polt made his move: Despite having a much harder time trying to surround SuperNoVa, he eventually succeeded in destroying SuperNoVa's push. At first it seemed like SuperNoVa had enough forces to fight Polt off, but Polt just keep pumping out his Marauders and Marines and eventually run SuperNoVa over instead. Polt would stay in Code S.
The next match was SuperNoVa's last chance at Code S this season, his opponent was TheBestfOu. The first game was on Scrap Station and even Tastosis admitted that the game was dull. TheBest kept making one bad decision after another. What really confused the casting duo was the fact that TheBest never ran his SCVs at his main mineral line when a Banshee was harassing. He would end up losing almost 20 SCVs from several Banshees sent at different times. Eventually this economic disadvantage would catch up to him and TheBest would be run down by SuperNoVa.
The second game was on Shakuras Plateau and TheBest took a much more aggressive approach by pushing all the way to SuperNoVa's natural. While this happened, SuperNoVa dropped a squad of Marines into TheBest's main and decimated the mineral line. Once again, poor decision making by TheBest cost him the game. Despite having a large army, he would not be able to reinforce it with many units from his production buildings as his economy had been reduced significantly. He would drop the second game in an unspectacular fashion and SuperNoVa would get into Code S while TheBest dropped down to Code A.
The final group of the Up/Down matches started with IMLosirA versus BanBansZenith. The match got exciting real quick as BanBans attempted to grab a fast win with a proxy Gateway rush. After a bit of microing, BanBans would take out a considerable amount of Drones, but Losira was able to finish a Spine Crawler which tipped the scales immensely. After defending against the rush, Losira would run his Zerglings to BanBans main and return the favour. Losira would run most of BanBans' Probes out of BanBans' base and into the battlefield. In a last ditch effort to take the win, BanBans tried to run in with a force of Zealots and Probes in an attempt to take the game. This would fail however and Losira would take the first game.
After getting proxied by BanBans in the first game, Losira decides to do a little bit of aggressive play himself. Playing on Shakuras Plateau, he knew that there was a high chance that BanBans would attempt a fast expansion. Knowing this he decides to 7 pool. It's effective in forcing BanBans to sacrifice a large number of Probes to defend against it. The rush wouldn't give Losira the win, however, both players were given a chance to boost up their economies. The killing blow came when Losira busted into BanBans base with a force of Banelings, Roaches, and Zerglings. BanBans' cannon wall would disintegrate and he would be forced to GG.
A drop in the main and
an attack on the third After Losira's win, only one Code S spot remained from the Up/Down matches. It would come down to BanBansZenith and ST_Rainbow. Their first game was on Metalopolis. The entire game was pretty quiet until mid-game when Rainbow used his mutli-tasking skills to the max. After dropping a few Marauders to harass BanBans' main, Rainbow would force BanBans to separate his army in two. At the same time, Rainbow would constantly draw BanBans's main army towards BanBans's third base. Just as that happened, Rainbow dropped a huge force right into BanBans' main and took a Nexus out along with a few Stalkers. When BanBans's army retreated to defend the drop, Rainbow ran in with another force to take out BanBan's third Nexus. BanBans was completely out-classed in this first game and he would eventually GG.
The next map was on Shakuras Plateau. The game would be pretty even through out, Rainbow would attempt a few drops, but nothing too spectacular. Eventually the map would be split down the middle and both players would max out. In the final battle of the game, it would be two large armies against each other. Rainbow's Vikings would easily take down Banbans's Colossi while BanBans's Phoenixes were out of position to defend them. BanBans' army was decimated by a large Marauder and Marine army and typed out. The last Code S player would be a returnee in ST_Rainbow as BanBans was demoted to Code A.
