Indonesian studio Eksil Team brings a raw, personal edge to the beat ’em up genre, with a law student’s revenge quest set in a dystopian version of Bandung.
Among the many intriguing titles revealed during Summer Game Fest, Acts of Blood stood out as a gritty, fast-paced beat ’em up from Indonesian indie developer Eksil Team.
Set in a dystopian version of Bandung, Acts of Blood centres on Hendra, a law student driven to violence after the brutal murder of his family. Voiced by Indonesian actor Luqman Ski, Hendra’s quest for vengeance is steeped in raw combat and personal rage.
A brutal vision of Bandung
The gameplay trailer for Acts of Blood offers a glimpse into its third-person hand-to-hand combat system. Set across multiple levels, the game appears to focus on fast-paced brawling, with players facing waves of enemies using a mix of combos, counters, and finishing moves. The trailer suggests a strong emphasis on weighty, aggressive combat.
In addition to unarmed attacks, players can access a range of melee and firearm weapons, including bats, knives, pistols, and rifles. Each weapon seems to offer a different combat approach, with the option to switch between them mid-fight to suit various encounters.
Environmental interaction also plays a role. Objects such as props and furniture can be broken or repurposed as makeshift weapons, potentially adding some variation to combat scenarios. The inclusion of traditional parkour mechanics, such as vaulting, climbing, and jumping, indicates that movement and positioning may be important elements in both navigation and combat.
There’s also room for personal expression. Hendra can be customised with various outfits found in his apartment wardrobe, offering players the chance to change his appearance to suit their preferences or the mood of a mission.
Acts of Blood is due out in Summer 2026 for PC. A free demo is now also available now on Steam.
