Capcom announces Resident Evil Requiem set in Raccoon City, launches February 2026

Capcom has officially announced the ninth Resident Evil game, taking players back to a familiar decimated city.

Capcom brought us the biggest announcement from Summer Game Fest 2025 by far: Resident Evil Requiem. Requiem is the ninth Resident Evil game in the mainline franchise, seemingly featuring an all-new cast of characters and threats with a familiar location: the decimated Raccoon City, which was cratered following the events of Resident Evil 2.

Here’s the first trailer:

Capcom announces Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom has officially announced the long-awaited ninth game in the mainline Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil 9 is titled Resident Evil Requiem, following up on the events of Resident Evil Village by shifting focus away from Ethan Winters and his family. After their lengthy and horrific encounter with the mold, it’s about time the franchise allowed them to rest.

This sequel follows Grace Ashcroft, who might just be the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak’s Alyssa Ashcroft. Grace is an FBI agent tasked with investigating a continuing series of mysterious deaths by the government, which somehow ties into the incident at Raccoon City many years back. You know, the one with all the zombies.

Here’s Capcom’s description of the game, according to an official website:

Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living. Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth title in the mainline Resident Evil series. Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core. A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancements combined with the development team's depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that's more immersive than ever before.

What remains to be seen is how the series will deal with the time jump introduced in Resident Evil Village’s Shadow of Rose DLC, which featured Ethan’s daughter as a teenager. Will Requiem take place after Shadow of Rose’s time jump, or will it take place in the span of time established between Village and the DLC?

We have so many questions–like are we going to see Leon S. Kennedy return in this Resident Evil 2 follow-up? What’s the connection between this game and Resident Evil Outbreak, given Grace Ashcroft’s inclusion? Hopefully, we’ll get the answers to some of these questions soon.

Resident Evil Requiem is officially launching on 27 February, 2026.
