Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection bundles iconic Mortal Kombat games, launches in 2025

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection has been announced during Playstation's State of Play, featuring a curated selection of classic Mortal Kombat games.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection has been announced by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment during PlayStation's State of Play. The collection will feature a curated selection of classic Mortal Kombat titles. Digital Eclipse developed the collection, which will feature rollback netcode for online play and an interactive documentary of the series' history.

Digital Eclipse is the company behind some of the beloved retro game collections, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Edition or Samurai Showdown Neo Geo Collection. Its latest creation, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, is Digital Eclipse's take on classic Power Rangers gameplay, with scenarios and gameplay that will be both familiar and new to fans.

The Legacy Kollection will feature Mortal Kombat's most iconic titles, spanning multiple platforms. Some of the confirmed games include:

  1. Mortal Kombat (1992)–Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear
  2. Mortal Kombat II (1993)–Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X
  3. Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)–Arcade, SNES, Genesis
  4. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)–Arcade, SNES
  5. Mortal Kombat 4 (1997)–Arcade

Digital Eclipse has also added an interactive documentary, featuring interviews with Ed Boon, John Tobias, John Vogel, and Dan Forden, alongside rare concept art and archival footage. Here is the official description of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection taken from the Digital Eclipse website:

Digital Eclipse's interactive documentary format explores how Mortal Kombat changed the way society perceived video games. By using digitized humans as player sprites in an over-the-top, martial-arts fighter, the game thrilled players, shocked critics, and laid the foundation for a franchise that has thrived for more than 30 years. Hear firsthand from the original dev team of Ed Boon, John Tobias, John Vogel, and Dan Forden, along with other exclusive interviews, rare concept art, vintage marketing materials, and archival video footage.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is set to release later in 2025, though an exact date has not been confirmed.
