New Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater trailer teases return of Metal Gear Online

Metal Gear Online might just be back.

This week’s State of Play presentation gave us a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. While Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 3 remake seems to be shaping up nicely, however, its latest trailer appears to be hinting at a currently-announced major feature: online multiplayer.

That means fans might finally see the return of Metal Gear Online this year, at long last. Here’s the trailer:

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater trailer teases online features

Konami has released a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but you’ll have to stay until the end to catch its biggest reveal. After the main title card, the video shows us an unknown character covered in grass going prone next to a river, where their camouflage morphs into rocks instead. Another character passes by them, totally unaware of their presence.

Both of these characters appear to be players in a multiplayer mode, which hasn’t been revealed for the remake just yet. However, this could be Konami’s way of hinting towards the return of Metal Gear Online, which had a game mode that lines up with what we saw in the trailer above.

This mode is called Team Sneaking, which has an attacking team equipped with stealth camo attempting to bring various objectives to their goal area–almost like a capture the flag mode. The defending team has to stop the other team from stealing these items by seeing through their camouflage.

The very first Metal Gear Online game launched as a 2008 video game spin-off for PlayStation 3, with a starter pack that came bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It’s likely that the game won’t receive a full remake within Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but we might see similar multiplayer components in the game.

Either way, Konami has not confirmed multiplayer support for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. The publisher has only confirmed that the upcoming game has more content in store for players beyond what we’ve seen of the main campaign, including an Ape Escape minigame called Snake vs. Monkey.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will launch on 28 August, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. For more games showcased in this week’s State of Play presentation, check out our coverage here.
