Marvel Rivals releases new auto chess game mode and skins in 5 June update

Marvel Rivals has announced a new game mode dubbed Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol, due for release on 5 June, 2025, and new hero skins.

Marvel Rivals has announced an upcoming game update, launching on 5 June, 2025. The update adds new features, including Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol, new cosmetics, and gameplay optimisations. The main highlights of the update were Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol, which is an auto chess-like game mode, akin to Teamfight Tactics.

Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol mode is a feature that allows players to deploy Marvel heroes as units on a checkered battlefield. Players need to strategically manage an in-game economy to purchase Synergy upgrades and multipliers that enhance their abilities. The mode was only available from 6 to 23 June as an experimental mode. Players who log in during this period can claim a free Tic-Tac-Toe spray.

Marvel Rivals' 5 June update brought new skins and optimisation

Alongside the new game mode, the update rolls out two premium cosmetic bundles: Jeff the Land Shark's “Sunshine Land Shark Bundle”, and Wolverine's “Weapon X Bundle”. Both bundles will be available for purchase starting 6 June 2025. The Sunshine Land Shark skin will transform Jeff into a brown shark with a flower necklace, with a tropical theme. Meanwhile, Weapon X will relive Wolverine's first transformation as part of the Weapon X project, complete with his helmet and body plug.

Besides the skin, the game will also feature several quality-of-life improvements. Loki's illusion now performs emotes alongside the real Loki, further confusing his enemies. Players can now place up to six sprays on the battlefield. The issues with the Hellfire Gala: Krakoa map that enable characters to clip into terrain have been resolved. The developer has also updated the Jeff-Nado Team-Up profile story.

While this update brings a lot of new content to Marvel Rivals, there are no balance adjustments or matchmaking stability updates happening this week.
