Helldivers 2 announced and released the Helldivers 2: Omens of Tyranny update during The Game Awards 2024.
The long-awaited Illuminate update for Helldivers 2 is finally live! After being unveiled during The Game Awards 2024, the new major update for Helldivers 2 features an expansion that includes the Illuminate faction’s invasion of Super Earth planets in the galactic south.
The Illuminate faction, which was first introduced in the original Helldivers, is a highly sophisticated civilization that has endured for several hundred thousand years, but has disappeared for almost a century since. However, with a vast and extremely complicated network for space travel, and a retinue of massive weapons of mass destruction, the Illuminate faction continue to be a force to be reckoned with in Helldivers 2: Omens of Tyranny as they return to wreak havoc in a bid for total domination.
This major update will introduce a number of new enemies to fight against, as well as new Super Earth colonies to fight on and protect. These colonies will feature Helldivers 2’s first foray into urban environments, and will include innocent civilians who are abducted and mind-controlled by the Illuminate faction, called The Voteless.
The Voteless are essentially a horde of mindless zombies who are more than capable of tearing Helldivers apart, so it’s going to need a lot of firepower and quick thinking to liberate them from the slimy tentacles of the Illuminate faction.
Things won’t be easy for players, as the wide, open spaces that Helldivers are accustomed to will be replaced by cities chock-full of close quarters, dark alleys, and forked paths that can lead to hordes of enemies. Caution and care is highly encouraged!
But that doesn’t mean there’s no new equipment in store, Helldivers 2: Omens of Tyranny will also provide Helldivers with a brand spanking new and shiny FRV; a top-of-the-line manual transmission reconnaissance and combat vehicle that can make traversing city terrain easier on your squad.
