AirAsia has become the first Asean brand to partner with SEGA and ATLUS.

Leading travel and lifestyle brand AirAsia has teamed up with global gaming giant SEGA and its renowned group company ATLUS for an exciting collaboration! The partnership will bring to life two beloved SEGA gaming franchises, Sonic the Hedgehog and Persona 5, through stunning aircraft liveries and the promise of an immersive in-flight experience.

The collaboration is a part of AirAsia’s larger “The Colour of Connection” campaign, headed by AirAsia brand co. (Abc.), the brand management arm of Capital A.

SEGA and Atlus fans can expect a groundbreaking fusion of gaming and aviation, as AirAsia aims to connect travellers to their gaming passion through a thrilling combination of entertainment and travel, all while celebrating SEGA and ATLUS’s biggest games.

Two planes will be decked out with iconic characters from Sonic and Persona 5. Fans and travellers can expect to see Sonic and friends, which includes Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Amy Rose, adorning AirAsia X’s Airbus A330 (flight code: D7, tail number 9M-XXU), while Phantom Thief duo Joker and Morgana will steal hearts on AirAsia Malaysia’s Airbus A320 (flight code: AK, tail number 9M-AFF).

The themed planes will fly across AirAsia’s expansive network of over 100 destinations, including major cities like Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai, and Sidney.

In a statement, AirAsia CEO Rudy Khaw shared that this partnership is a major milestone for the company as it expands into the domain of gaming and pop culture, which also aligns with their commitment to offer unique travel experiences to their guests.

“As a brand representing the pride of ASEAN, we are excited to showcase the region's creativity and vibrancy through this collaboration," added Khaw.

Shuji Utsumi, President and COO of SEGA CORPORATION, also expressed enthusiasm at the collaboration, stating: "We are honored to embark on this exciting initiative with AirAsia. Both the Sonic and Persona series are growing in popularity across Asia, and we believe this collaboration between travel and gaming will lead to new and exciting discoveries."

To further enhance the gaming-themed journey, Santan in-flight catering will be offering a new food item in the in-flght menu themed around Sonic’s iconic golden rings. Called Sonic’s Golden Ring Cakes, these special donuts will be topped with a golden glaze and Sonic-themed decorations, and will be available for pre-booking on AirAsia Malaysia (AK) and AirAsia X Malaysa (D7) flights

Exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog and Persona 5 merchandise will also be made available for purchase in early 2025 on all AirAsia Flights and through AirAsia MOVE Duty Free, giving dedicated fans the chance to own a piece of this uniquely unforgettable collaboration.
