Pick your poison: F1 cars, One Piece or aliens?
We’re officially one week away from San Diego Comic Con 2024, which promises to deliver exciting announcements for upcoming video games, movies, TV shows, comic books and more. While we wait for that to kick off, however, this week brings us more new games and a Deadpool movie. Here’s what we’re playing and watching this week:
What we’re playing this week
If you’re a One Piece fan who hasn’t played One Piece Odyssey, now’s the time to rectify that. This RPG launches on the Nintendo Switch on July 26, following the Straw Hat Crew’s adventures on a lush tropical island after they get shipwrecked during a storm. The game has an original story by manga creator Eiichiro Oda, too.
Earth Defense Force 6 also launches on July 25, in case you’re feeling an insatiable craving for retro-style arcade shooters. This highly silly series focuses on the Earth Defense Force, an organisation formed to beat back hordes of gigantic alien bugs which threaten to overrun the planet.
Formula 1 fans can also check out F1 Manager 2024, a sports management game launching on July 23. In this game, players take a step back from the action to manage an F1 team by planning strategies, scheduling pit stops and managing facilities throughout multiple racing seasons. In this year’s entry, you can also create your very own F1 team.
What we’re watching this week
This week, a little indie movie called Deadpool & Wolverine hits theatres. Set six years after the events of Deadpool 2, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) has his life upended when the Time Variance Authority (TVA) enlists his help for a new mission. With an extremely reluctant Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in tow, Wade has to suit up as Deadpool again and save his loved ones from a mysterious fate.
On July 24, Apple TV+’s remake of the 1981 movie Time Bandits drops its first two episodes. Created by Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement and Iain Morris, the series follows a group of misfit thieves who journey through time and space to commit heists with their newest recruit: an eleven-year-old history nerd.
