Grand Theft Auto 6 will now launch in Fall 2025

Grand Theft Auto 6 inches closer to its release date, while Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to sell like hotcakes.

A recent earnings report from Take-Two Interactive has given us a rough release window for Grand Theft Auto 6: Fall 2025. That would allow Rockstar Games’ highly-anticipated open-world sequel to launch right before the 2025 holiday season, giving fans a more specific release window to look forward to than before.

Take-Two seems quite confident that the game is going to sell like gangbusters too, stating that it’s, “poised to achieve new levels of success, and we expect to deliver sequential growth in Net Bookings for Fiscal 2025, 2026, and 2027.” Take a guess on which game the company is banking on to deliver these ‘new levels of success’.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches next fall

In Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings report, the game publisher confirmed that GTA 6 will launch at some point in Fall 2025, giving Rockstar plenty of time to market the sequel over the next year. In the report, the publisher said:

We are highly confident that Rockstar Games will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience, and our expectations for the commercial impact of the title continue to increase. Looking ahead, we believe that our Company is poised to achieve new levels of success, and we expect to deliver sequential growth in Net Bookings for Fiscal 2025, 2026, and 2027.

All Rockstar games since Grand Theft Auto 5 have suffered delays from their originally announced release dates, so things could still change, especially since the publisher has yet to commit to a specific date for this sequel. GTA 6 was originally announced on December 4, 2024, with a return to the franchise’s Vice City setting that includes an expansion to its surrounding islands and rural landscapes. Vice City was also previously depicted in the 1980s, so the city itself will have changed quite a bit by the time players get to explore it in the modern day.

Take-Two also confirmed in its earnings report that GTA 5 has continued to sell like hotcakes over the last year, with 15 million copies sold since August 2023. The game has now sold 200 million copies since its original release, though these sales comprise two console generations and a later PC release. GTA 6 has yet to confirm a PC release date, but chances are that Rockstar plans to release the game on consoles first, much like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
