Five Nights at Freddy's movie trailer shows off creepy animatronics

The Five Nights at Freddy’s live-action adaptation has finally unveiled its creepy animatronics.

The upcoming live-action movie adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s has released a new trailer that finally shows off its titular animatronic Freddy Fazbear and his terrifying friends. It's shaping up to be a pretty faithful adaptation already, even if the trailer does give away a few of the franchise’s core mysteries.

Watch the trailer below:

Five Nights at Freddy’s stars Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) as a troubled security guard named Mike Schmidt, who takes on a shift at the once-popular Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Unfortunately, the family entertainment center has taken a turn for the worse over the years. The place has been all but abandoned, but Mike is a single father who could use the gig, so he takes his daughter over to the creepy building to do the job.

Franchise creator Scott Cawthon came up with the film’s story, which makes sense considering how authentic it all looks in live-action. The eerie animatronics look like they’ve jumped from Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, and the similarities don’t end there - Security Breach had a child character just like Mike’s daughter Abby, and a character named Vanessa who appears in this trailer.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is well-known for hiding deeper mysteries under a seemingly shallow premise: you’re trapped in a building filled with evil animatronics, and have to survive an entire night without dying. The games eventually get into the origins of these animatronics and the pizzeria they live in, and a few of those mysteries are hinted at in the trailer. Missing children are mentioned, and Mike is told that the animatronics want to make his daughter, “like them.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s hits theaters on October 27, 2023.
