Diablo 4's launch trailer teases climactic war between heaven and hell

Heaven and hell go to war in the new Diablo 4 trailer.

Blizzard Entertainment’s highly-anticipated action-RPG Diablo 4 is just a few weeks away from release now, and the publisher has dropped a new story launch trailer to keep the hype train rolling. The game launches on June 6, 2023, but anyone who pre-orders the game will get four days of early access.

Watch the story launch trailer below:

This launch trailer is mostly a mish-mash of previous cinematics we’ve already seen, running down the core of this campaign’s plot: Mephisto’s daughter Lilith has been summoned back to Sanctuary, a land she created and subsequently lost control of. Lilith not only created Sanctuary with the angel Inarius, but the duo also birthed the Nephalem to populate it - an in-between race that is neither Angel nor Demon, but a mix of both.

When the Nephalem fell under threat, Lilith protected her children by destroying all who would oppose them within Sanctuary and without. Her violence caused Inarius to banish her into the void, though he clearly could have done a better job of it. Lilith is back to raise hell in Sanctuary, and Inarius is bringing what remnants of heaven that remain with him to launch a war for the realm they created together. The whole trailer is set to a song called Nightmare by Halsey, created just for the game.

None of this will be new information to anyone who has participated in Blizzard’s open betas for the game this year, or caught a glimpse of the massive marketing machine pushing this game into the eyes of the public. Blizzard is clearly very confident in the game they have made here, and with two weeks left until launch, it’s going all-out in selling it. The game itself is shaping up to be one of the company’s best in years, and it could outdo Diablo 3 at launch if things go smoothly. This is Blizzard we’re talking about, so there are no guarantees.

Diablo 4 is offering four days of early access for anyone who placed a pre-order, starting from June 2. Everyone else can play the game when it comes out on June 6.
