Genshin Impact 4.8: Guide to building Emilie plus her best gear and teammates

Emilie enters the scene for versions 4.8’s second half! Here’s everything you need to know about building her.

Burning in style

Emilie is Fontaine’s premier perfumer who’s got some secrets up her sleeve. But besides being well versed in various scents and notes, she’s also shaped up to be a very formidable Dendro unit you don’t want to sleep on.

Emilie is a 5-star off-field sub DPS/support unit who focuses on the oft-forgotten Dendro-related reaction ‘Burning’. Being the last 5-star to be released before Natlan becomes available in the upcoming version 5 update, it looks like Emilie will play an important role as our firsthand experience into what exactly we can expect when it comes to combat in Natlan.

Emilie’s kit heavily relies on Burning, a reaction wherein afflicting Pyro to Dendro-stricken enemies and vice versa will inflict continuous Pyro DMG to your enemies.

Emilie’s skill, Fragrance Extraction, plays into buffing Burning. Once activated, Emilie will create a Lumidouce Case that inflicts AoE Dendro DMG, after which the construct will fire Puffs of Puredew (aka Dendro DMG) to nearby opponents at intervals.

When afflicted opponents are affected by Burning, they will give off Scents every 2 seconds. The Scents will be then collected by the Lumidouce Case, after gathering 2, the Lumidouce Case will ‘level up’ and will fire an extra Puff of Puredew, while increasing its DMG and AoE.

Emilie’s burst, Aromatic Explication, acts as a buffer for her skill. Once unleashed, Emilie will guide the fragrances she created from her skill’s Lumidouce Case, converting them into pure Dendro Energy to create a level 3 Lumidouce Case. If an existing Lumidouce Case is on field when her burst is active, the case will be stowed away.

The level 3 Lumidouce Case will not gather nearby scents, but will continuously cause Scented Dew to descend. The Scented Dew will attack opponents within rage with Dendro DMG.

When the duration for her burst ends, a level 1 Lumidouce Case will be recreated. However, if a case has been stowed away after unleashing Aromatic Explication, the same case will be redeployed with a reset duration.

Emilie’s passives focus on Burning res and buffs. Her a2 will give all party members an 85% Pyro Res against Burning DMG when a Lumidouce Case is on the field, while her a6 will allow Emilie to deal increased DMG to Burning opponents based on her ATK, with every 1,000 ATK increasing DMG by 15%, for a maximum DMG bonus of 36%.

In this regard, levelling up priority should be: skill, burst, NA, but you can skip levelling up NA as you won’t really need it unless she’s your main DPS.

Gear and Teams

Emilie’s best weapon choice is obviously her 5-star signature polearm Lumidouce Elegy, which ascends with Crit Rate and has a passive that increases her ATK by 15%. Lumidouce Elegy also exclusively works with buffing the Burning reaction.

But if you’re not keen on pulling on the weapon banner, you can opt to give her these alternatives:

  • Calamity Queller (gacha) - has the highest base ATK in the game, can increase ATK every second by 3.2% which can stack 6 times. The second best 5-star polearm you can equip for Emilie,
  • Dragon’s Bane (gacha) - the Elemental Mastery substat won’t give much of a difference to Emilie, but the passive that increases DMG to enemies affected with Pyro will work to her advantage as she is constantly triggering Burning reactions,
  • Deathmatch (battlepass) - your best low-spender 4-star bet, as the substat will give her some much-needed Crit Rate, and the passive also increases her ATK,
  • Missive Windspear (event-limited) - this free event-only spear will increase Emilie’s attack by up to 41.3% because of its substat, as well as provide an additional 12% ATK and 48% Elemental Mastery increase once an Elemental Reaction is triggered,
  • Moonpiercer (Sumeru-craftable) - focuses on Dendro-related reactions, including Burning. Increases EM by 110, and will provide a 16% ATK increase for 12s.

For Artifacts, you have two options:

  • 4-piece Unfinished Reverie - the artifact set that solely focuses on the Burning Reaction, thereby being the best option for Emilie, or
  • 4-piece Deepwood Memories - decreases opponents' Dendro RES by 30% for 8s after being affected by a skill or burst.

The main stats you should go for in Emilie's artifacts are ATK for the sands, Dendro DMG Bonus for the goblet, and Crit Rate/DMG for her circlet. While Emilie's energy cost is only 50, make sure to get a couple of Energy Recharge substats to help sustain her energy needs. Once that has been fulfilled, go for more Crit Rate/DMG and ATK.

For Teams, Emilie is great in compositions that focus solely on Burning. Pyro characters can trigger the Burning reaction for Emilie, and you can pick and choose between Pyro characters who can consistently deal Elemental DMG on and off the field, like Xiangling and Thoma. You can also add a second Dendro character to increase the potency of Elemental Reactions, like Nahida, Dendro Traveller, Baizhu, Kirara, and Yaoyao
