Team Spirit knocked out of PGL Wallachia Season 5 by BetBoom Team

Team Spirit were seen as heavy favourites in PGL Wallachia Season 5 after a perfect run through the Group Stage.

Eastern European Dota 2 powerhouse Team Spirit is out of PGL Wallachia Season 5, suffering elimination at the hands of regional rivals BetBoom Team. Spirit exit the tournament in fourth place, taking home USD$80,000 in consolation.

Entering the tournament as one of the favorites, Spirit initially topped the Group Stage with three series wins and no losses. Their run in the Group Stage even earned them widespread praises from the community, following impressive mega creep comebacks to earn them narrow wins.

However, in the playoffs, BetBoom consistently outplayed and outmaneuvered them–first sweeping the series to send them to the lower bracket, and later eliminating them with a 2–1 victory.

This marks yet another Top 4 finish for the iconic squad, following a 3rd–4th place showing at BLAST Slam III in May. Spirit have shown consistent form throughout their 2025 campaign so far, cementing their status as one of the season’s top teams.

BetBoom, on the other hand, have had a more unstable path, consistent with their historically unpredictable performance. Their run at PGL Wallachia Season 5 nearly ended in the Group Stage, where they barely secured enough wins to qualify for the playoffs.

Losses to underdog South American squad Edge and the unproven Natus Vincere (NAVI) lineup put them at risk, but wins against Virtus.pro, Xtreme Gaming, and Team Tidebound allowed them to narrowly advance.

Riding a wave of strong momentum – perhaps boosted by a surprise patch drop on the last day of the Group Stage–BetBoom showed incredible form in the playoffs. Their opening win against Spirit was convincing, but they were later knocked down to the lower bracket after a 1–2 loss to reigning The International (TI) champions Team Liquid.

In the lower bracket, BetBoom exacted revenge on NAVI, eliminating them from the tournament. They followed up with another decisive victory over the two-time TI champions, Spirit, securing a guaranteed Top 3 finish and advancing to the lower bracket finals.

PGL Wallachia Season 5 set for the finale

BetBoom Team will have a chance to settle the score with Liquid, who were themselves swept into the lower bracket by Gaimin Gladiators. They will duke it out in the lower bracket finals for a spot in the grand finals, where the Gladiators await.

The finale will be a battle for the championship title and the lion’s share of the US$1 million prize pool, with USD$300,000 up for grabs.
