Tobi will be standing-in for Insania while the latter takes a personal break.
Prominent organisation Team Liquid has confirmed its roster for the upcoming PGL Wallachia Season 5, Dota 2’s next big tournament this June. Its team captain,
Aydin “iNsania” Sarkohi, will be taking a personal break until the Group Stage of the tournament ends. Until then, Austrian offlaner
Tobias “Tobi” Buchner will be filling in for him.
The fifth iteration of the PGL Wallachia series holds weight in the competitive calendar, as fans anticipate a preview of teams’ forms before they head into the massive US$3 million Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025's Dota 2 tournament, set to kick off two weeks after this event concludes.
Team Liquid is among the heavy favorites coming into this tournament. The team not only holds the current world champion title in Dota 2, but is also the back-to-back PGL Wallachia champions after winning Season 3 in March and Season 4 in April. Although the team performed relatively mediocre in almost all other tournaments this season, Liquid seems to have the knack for the PGL Wallachia circuit.
With a core part of the team missing for the first half of the event, fans are uncertain about how Liquid will perform. Insania has rarely stepped away from the team's helm, making this break a notably rare absence.
Tobi is one of the more well-known players from the Western European (WEU) region, having played for Entity and
PSG Quest, plus a notable stand-in period with
Tundra Esports last year. However, his prowess will be tested coming into this event, especially as he takes on a foreign role in this particular lineup.
The PGL Wallachia S5 stage is set
Team Liquid will play with Tobi throughout the Group Stage, from 21 to 25 June. For the opening series, Liquid has been paired with South America’s HEROIC. The next pairings will be decided as the tournament unfolds, as it follows the modified Swiss System format.
PGL Wallachia S5 will run until June 29, when the fifth PGL Wallachia champion is crowned and awarded US$350,000 in prize money. This will be the final Tier 1 tournament in the Dota 2 calendar before the EWC 2025's Dota 2 competition begins on 8 July.
