Best teams in the world gather at FISSURE Universe: Episode 3

FISSURE Universe: Episode 3 is bringing together the main contenders at The International 2024 title for a final confrontation before the most important tournament of the year.

Although it will be held online and the prize pool is modest compared to any other recent competitions, the third episode of FISSURE Universe is bound to be the series’ most staked event due to its timing.

FISSURE Universe: Episode 3 will be running from August 18 - 25 with 14 teams receiving a direct invite to the tournament. Eight teams will be battling out in the play-in stage between the 18 and 20th of August for two slots in the main tournament. Another six competitors received direct invites straight to the group stage and will begin the event on August 21.

Only three of the eight invites to the play-in stage have been announced so far. Southeast Asia TI13 qualified team Aurora will fight for a spot in the main event along with MOUZPSG.Quest, and five yet-to-be revealed teams.

The play-in stage will be held in a double elimination bracket, best-of-three series, except the lower bracket finals which will be a best-of-five affair. The upper bracket finalist and lower bracket grand finals winning team will move to the main tournament.

Gaimin Gladiators, the Esports World Cup Dota 2 champions, are atop the invites list. They are joined by Team SpiritTeam FalconsTundra EsportsBetBoom Team, and Cloud9. One of the biggest absences on this list is the EWC runners up, Team Liquid, who are currently in Peru, competing at Elite League.

This will be the only time before TI13 when Dota 2 fans can get used to hearing once again the Cloud9 name. The organisation returned to Dota earlier this month after a four-year hiatus. The NA giant signed the Entity roster, which is actually the defending champion at FISSURE Universe. The team is also qualified for TI13, meaning that C9 is also back for the most prestigious Dota 2 tournament.

FISSURE Universe: Episode 3 prize pool distribution:

  • 1st place:$70,000
  • 2nd place: $35,000
  • 3rd place: $20,000
  • 4th place: $10,000
