Some of the Dota 2 teams along with the production crew and the Mooduck TV talent that participated at Northern Arena Beat Invitational in November last year are still waiting for their money.
According to a report made by theScore esports last night, there are several Dota 2 teams who haven’t received their prize money from Northern Arena.
While it is uncertain how many from the eight participants haven’t been paid yet, the runners up NP, Alliance, placed 5th/6th and CompLexity Gaming, placed 7th/8th at the LAN event, have confirmed to theScore esports that they are yet to receive their prize money. Their winnings combined raise the owned sum at $26,000, from the $100,000 total prize pool of Northern Arena Beat Invitational.
Anyone who was brought under the BEAT Banner was paid wages by us out of pocket
Additionally, the Canadian esports organization BEAT Gaming, who has been in charge with the production for the qualifiers stage and the main event, told theScore that Northern Arena did not pay the staff salaries and other various expenses. "Anyone who was brought under the BEAT Banner was paid wages by us out of pocket. This included stats, admins for the event and our translator. Northern Arena is responsible for reimbursing us for those wages" said a BEAT Gaming representative to theScore esports. At the same time, the Northern Arena CEO, Carl-Edwin Michel denied BEAT Gaming’s allegations saying that “the two organizations are currently in a legal dispute over a breach of contract”, but confirmed with theScore that the company did not pay some of the Dota 2 teams.
Andrew 'Zyori'Campbell, managing director at MoonduckTV, the studio that provided the entire qualifiers broadcast and the on-site coverage for the LAN event, broke the silence as well and said that none of the Moonduck affiliated talent has received any money.
Jake 'SirActionSlacks' Kanner, Kevin 'Purge' Godec, Annie 'AnneeDroid' LeClair, Travis 'Maut' Bueno, Jonathan 'PimpmuckL' Liebig, Trent 'TrentPax' MacKenzie and Zyori are all waiting for their payment from November, and according to theScore esports, MoonduckTV plans to send a legal notice to Northern Arena.
