MVP Phoenix claim their spot in the DotA Pit finals

After some brilliant quarter final matches yesterday, we return to the DotA Pit action today. The first semi-final sees MVP Phoenix going up against compLexity Gaming.

Game one

With compLexity Gaming picking the Tiny-Wisp combo, they seem to have a better draft and it shows in the early game, with the combo racking up two kills before four minutes have passed. With the first teamfight, coL look like they have a massive advantage but MVP Phoenix manage to turn it around and make it an even trade of two kills apiece. By ten minutes, suddenly both teams are looking ready to fight – with fights breaking out across the map. With these skirmishes coL have a small advantage, but MVP are definitely holding their own – neither team wanting to back down.

With the next team fight, coL drop four of MVP’s line up and push down the mid tier two tower. But MVP don’t sit back, and almost instantly initiate another fight, bringing down a fair few of coL’s line up, but not taking any other objectives. MVP are suddenly turning the game around after coL claim the first aegis – but off the back of the aegis pick up, they lose four heroes and the aegis. Thirty five minutes and MVP push through most of coL, forcing buybacks and taking out the rax top – but with the buybacks, coL wipe the Radiant team, although the damage is already done.

MVP take the second aegis and now are possibly ready to take another lane of rax. When MVP go highground they end up absolutely destroying coL, taking out the mid rax and bot too. A rampage coming out for Nature’s Prophet means that MVP end game one after a spectacular forty-five minutes of gameplay.

Game two

With a much more team fight focused line-up, coL go into this game looking to tie up the series. With ten minutes played, the game remains rather even on the score side, 3-3. The game remains rather even over the next few minutes, save a few picks and trades across the map. As the game goes toward the twenty minute point though, MVP seem to want to take control of the game and look to initiate and take team fights. One of these comes as the smoke up into their own jungle and find the entire compLexity team. Even with the Tidehunter’s ravage and a Tiny, MVP absolutely level coL in a full team wipe.

From this, they grab the first aegis of the game and look to push highground. With just over twenty five minutes passing in game two MVP move into the Radiant base and after sieging the bottom tier three tower and destroying most of coL’s line up, the GG is forced out – MVP takes the series 2-0 and head into the finals where they’ll face off against the winner of the next semi-final.

With the current performances from MVP Phoenix, they definitely should not be underestimated by whichever team they come across in the finals.
