Team Liquid announced that Danish player Jacob "Pimp" Winneche is set to leave the team.
Jacob "Pimp" Winneche moved to the United States last June when he signed for Team Liquid. After nine months with the North American team, the Danish player is on his way out. The organisation revealed that they are negotiating Pimp's transfer with interested parties. During the process, Pimp will act as an active substitute for the team.
Prior to Pimp's transfer to Liquid, the team enjoyed success in two majors in a row with a semi-final exit at MLG Columbus 2016 and a Grand Final loss at ESL One: Cologne 2016, primarily thanks to Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev. Replacing the Ukrainian prodigy was a tough task for Pimp and despite partial success at CyberPowerPC Summer 2016 and ESL One: New York 2016, Liquid couldn't live up to the expectations. After securing a semi-final exit in New York, Liquid failed to impress again as Pimp and co. failed to make it beyond the quarter-finals in all event they've attended since ESL One: New York 2016. Failing to qualify for events like Intel Extreme Masters XI: Katowice 2017 and StarLadder i-League Season 3 only made the things worse.
Regarding his departure, Pimp stated that he no longer feels that playing for Liquid fulfills his personal expectations and goals. He also thanked Team Liquid for everything they've done and prodived for him:
It has been a great ride and an experience I would not trade for anything in the world. I am not done as a player by any means, and I am actively looking for another team with a vision similar to mine. I want to take this time to thank Liquid for everything they’ve done and provided for me, a life experience I wouldn’t be without!”
Until Liquid find a replacement, they will field the following roster:
Nick "nitr0" Cannella
Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski
Josh "jdm64" Marzano
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz
Jacob "Pimp" Winneche (substitute)
Wilton "zews" Prado (coach)
