After an exciting weekend of competition, Polish hopefuls Kinguin were set to go up against a very capable French EnVyUs squad in a best of three series to determine the WESG 2016 World Champion.
The veto process saw the map choices narrowed down to Train (map 1), Dust2 (map 2), and Cobblestone (map 3). EnVyUs began the grand final on the Counter-Terrorist side, and limited their Polish opponents to only 5 rounds at the half. Their momentum continued into the second half as they shut out Kinguin to secure the first victory in the series, 16-5.
EnVyUs’ wrath continued as the two teams moved on to map 2, Dust2, as they claimed another 10-5 first half victory, this time beginning on the Terrorist side. Kinguin was able to take 1 round in the second half, which was an improvement upon their previous effort, but it was still not enough; EnVyUs finished the second half 6-1 to become WESG 2016 World Champions, and heirs to a bountiful $800,000 prize purse.
Kinguin's effort proved to be in vain, as EnVyUs steamrolled their way through the grand final, giving up only 11 total rounds across two maps. EnVyUs beat Kinguin on Train 16-5, and Dust2 16-6 to secure the tournament victory, and claim the largest first place prize in CS:GO tournament history.
