Sasha “Scarlett” Hostyn has made it to the oldest and most prestigious StarCraft 2 league.
StarCraft 2 fans will have something really special to look forward to next year. For the first time in four years, a foreigner will compete in GSL, the game’s premier tournament on Korean soil.
Said player will be Canada’s Scarlett of team Expert, who qualified for the tournament today to complete the Round of 32. Although no pairings have been drawn for the first group stage, scheduled to begin January 4, Scarlett is to find herself in the company of StarCraft 2’s best players, including WCS 2016 grand finalists Hyun-Woo “Byun” Byun and Ryung-Woo “Dark” Park, IEM Gyeonggi champion Shin-Hyung “Innovation” Lee and two-times world champion Yoo-Jin “sOs” Kim.
Scarlett is the first foreigner to play in the game’s most prestigious and highest skill league since Ilyes “Stephano” Satouri and Chris “HuK” Loranger competed in the 2013 Season 1 of the franchise.
As a reminder, GSL 2017 was recently announced to receive an increase to the overall prize pool and structural changes such as the removal of Code A. As one of the 32 confirmed players, Scarlett will compete for a share of the $142,000 prize pool of the upcoming season. Scarlett’s last appearance at a premier tournament ended with a silver from HomeStory Cup 13, beating 2016 WCS Summer champion Tae-Soo “TRUE” Bang along the way.
