To celebrate the coming of the fall and fight off the melancholy that goes with it, we go grand in this weeks RotW, channeling from all the extremes of StarCraft that make the viewer go "niiiiiiice" or, you know, scream inarticulately in rapture. We are talking nukes on brood lords, psi storms, air toss and carriers. Lots of carriers.
1. Alive vs Bly
We can go all night about late-game ZvTs and even longer about super-late-game ZvTs but this one is easy to describe. In its essence it was mostly
Nukes & PDDs &
Nukes & drops &
Nukes & PDDs &
Nukes & drops
Makes me wonder why noone does T-shirts like that.
2. MaSsan vs Sson
Psi storms are frequent guest of RotW and not entirely because the originators of this feature are saddeningly biased. Usually, storm plays are here because they are a work of art and something so blue and so beautiful to behold that it's a shame to disregard them.
Such is the case described hereby. After stepping too deep into zerg terriotory, Sson is unofficially in a f**kload of trouble as he's 100 supply behind with no anti-roach tech to fall back on. His only get-out-of-hell ticket? Follow the saying of the Ukrainian Sun Tzu "make expand and then defense it" with thunderous persistance.
3. Destiny vs lIllIIIlIlII
For this game, Mr. Barcodes sticks his hand in the jar with SC2 myths, legends and fairytales and pulls out a stargate opening that does not end disastrously, a carrier, and a full-air protoss late-game composition that feeds Destiny something that MoW would not. There's also some mass neurals and an armada of Brood Lords for extra entertainment and to create the illusion that the zerg had some chance.
4. MaSter vs Beasty
Those of you who despise the terran race will not grow more affectionate after this replay. Not only Beasty never builds a second CC and choses to toy with the toss and irritate him beyond all limits by going for hellions and banshees off of one base but is also daring enough to land a manner factory at Master's ramp, effectively locking him down in his own base while doing the complex surgery known as "a-click behind nexus".
First lecture on "How to destroy the ladder in ten minutes 101" over.
5. Sage vs Lowely
It's not always obligatory for a game to have a special, quirky vibe to find its way here. Sometimes, being bigger than life helps as well.
Fortunately, this one is both. And even if it did not go for more than 45 minutes, saw battles all over the map or had carriers en masses, there would still be mass fungals on interceptors, explosive engagements and air battles that make "Independence Day" look like a docile version of LEGO Star Wars.
My colleague Hattfatt will tell me that I am not funny but our Replay Section is no laughing matter. Reports of GG.net readers enthralled by its enormity and consummate beauty are coming in by the thousands.
