KeSPA takes another step to further expand BroodWar and launches a new league, tailored for amateur players that want to prove their skill.
Despite the popularity of professional BroodWar in Korea, amateur players have not had many venues apart from OGN's "MyStarleague" and the "Courage" tournament, the latter being a way to award pro-gaming licenses to newcomers.
Thus, to give non-pros more opportunities to compete, KeSPA has created the
"Rookie League" which will also play a role for selecting and evaluating potential future pro-gamers, but the main purpose will be to stimulate the amateur players to start aiming for the pro scene.
Rookie League will be held ten times a year and unlike the other amateur events will feature a yearly prize pool of 13,000,000 KRW (~ 8,300 EUR). Each player will be awarded points for his performance so that a league ranking can be formed. Depending on the latter, players might get the chance to take part in the MSL Survivor tournament.
The first season of the Rookie League will commence this Saturday, on June 11th.
