WCG Preview: Testie

[s]interview[/s] Canada Testie recently did a 15-0 streak in F2F, and he is a discussed player, especially now since he ended up 2nd at WCG Canada. With only days left, I took some time with the Canadian random player.

So, first of all congratulations to your ticket to WCG! How does it feel to finally be going?
  • Well, the minute it happened I was kinda surprised. I play about half as good as I normally do offline (in ontario prelims I played like 1/5th) lol. But luckily I had a few good games when I needed them inbetween the bad or average ones. But it feels nice I guess.
I remember you writing something about in a comment before, but why do you play a lot worse offline than online? Which factors are the most likely to ruin it for you offline?
  • Like anything, you're just playing outside of your comfort zone. There are tournament players in korae, and people just as good as people in tournaments but never do so well offline. (Supposedly Love[30d.o.m] is a perfect example of this from hexatron. As he supposedly plays not himself in tournaments). Like anything, it takes experience.
And 4 lans isn't much experience.

Testie @ WCG Canada

In our WCG coverage where we asked about your personal prediction, you said "High --;". Now that you've seen your group, has your prediction changed?
  • No, but now that I know the way WCG is run and what races I will be playing against, it has shaken my confidence. If WCG had every game a BO7, I would feel EXTREMELY confident. Because better players have a higher % to win, the more games that are played. However, BO1's and BO3's do not say very much, and I doubt any players there with the exceptions - Midas, Xellos, and Mondi could beat me BO7. I was atleast hoping they'd have BO3 double elim, as in losers bracket with BO3 as well. And those would be some art BO7's to watch.

With the way things are run I think about there are about 16 players who could possible make it into the top 4.
So, which player will end up winning?
  • Obviously the korean terrans are in the boat. From the non-koreans any of these can do well: Testie / Mondi / Trek / Dante / Elky / Froz / Naz / Eriador / Hellghost / Fisheye / (I may forget one)... actually almost anyone can do well with this format.

If it were BO7's I would only list about 8 players who could make it top top 4. ;)
When are you leaving to San Fransisco, and how will you be getting there?
  • I am leaving no the 5th, at like 5:30 AM in the morning. *Ugh* I'll be leaving by plane.
What do your non-gamer friends say when you tell them you're going to this event?
  • non-gamer friends? I don't affiliate with those mutants! ;) Eh, they just say congrats and stuff they don't really understand =D And then joke like "Sure sure, just want time off work and making crap up" =)
Have you trained a lot for this event? I read about your F2F 15-0 story, very impressive.
  • Add that to the eriador KOTH! That's a 19-0 streak! What other player can do that? I'll tell you who! None! :P!
But hmm I did train a lot, but then after WCG Canada I played a lot of Diablo 2 and UMS's. I kinda forget all the training I did in august and tried to get back into it the past few days. Right now i'm feeling kinda weak >.<
Are you nervous?
  • I don't know. Not really but, shrug. Everyone whether they say it or not gets a little nervous before this kinda stuff. Except maybe the guys lanned a long time, and it feels right at home. Like slipping on an old pair of shoes.
Well, on behalf of GosuGamers, I wish you the best of luck!
