The new tournament system Face-2-Face saw another fantastic match between two European powerhouses. Face-2-Face features players like Legionnaire and BrEaKdOwN[pG]. However, two different faces showed up for this one. Coming off of a recent F2F win vs the outstanding protoss of Legionnaire, ZelotITO( in his shiny new LG tag) was ready to do battle. On the other side of the ring, the Dutch zerg iD.Twisted had plans to derail the Spanish powerhouse. Both players have enjoyed numerous accomplishments, and are truely among Europe's best. A fantastic series was sure to follow.

BATTLE REPORT: LG)ZelotITO vs iD.Twisted

Game #1: Spain LG)ZelotITO (Protoss, 06:00) versus Netherlands iD.Twisted (Zerg, 12:00)

Zelotito warped in Aiur's heroes at temple's 6' spot, while the swarm of twisted began their journey at 12'. Known for his deadly zeal rushes, zelotito began with a 2 gate opening at 10/12 psi respectively. Twisted decided to try the typical 3-hatch-expo build for 12', and made a 12/17 control hatchery below his ramp. Apparently sensing a rush, twisted abandoned a fast gas or immediate expo and instead opted to make zerglings when his pool finished. Unfortunately for twisted, zelotito did not feel comfortable with a long range rush. He abandoned any further zealots after the first one, and instead made gas and a core.

Moving into the mid-game, twisted went for a lair/den build to get lurkers, as well as an expansion, and zelotito teched up to zealot speed and also made an archon. Zelotito also decided at this point to expo, and set it up well before lurkers could cause any problems. Twisted made 2 evo chambers for melee/carapace upgrades, and also made an interesting expansion at 9' main. Zelotito had a scouting probe in both empty mains, so he was conscious of this move. Twisted tried to drop lurkers, but zelotito was prepared with obs. Knowing that he could not kill his opponent yet, twisted went for a very fast hive.

Zelotito used his army to mow down 9', but faced fierce opposition trying to leave. Twisted had lurkers burrowed, but a lack of detection caused him to run from zelotito's dark templars. Twisted had taken the top left island, as well as the mineral only base in front of 12'. Responding by taking his own mineral only base, zelotito knew a lot of fighting was to come. He had 7 gateways at this point, and healthy upgrades. Twisted also had superb ground upgrades, and began to make the juggernaut of the swarm --ultralisks. Zelotito had scouted the island, and used 2 shuttles from 2 different directions to take it out. Twisted now controlled the 9' main, and 2/2 upgrade on his dangerous army. Zelotito had kept on massing also, and was nearly at 200/200 psi.

The zerg then unleashed a wave of lings, lurkers, and of course ultralisks at zelotito's mineral only base. With some impressive storming and defending, the outpost stayed alive. Twisted lost his 9' main when DTs slipped by and took it out. He responded by morphing expos at both 9' and 3' naturals. Zelotito ran his army around, threatening to attack. He also established a base at the bottom right island, and made cannons on the main of 9'. Unit-wise, zelotito was starting to add reavers into the mix.

Eye-for-an-eye would be the strategy that followed. As zelotito took out twisted's 9' natural, the pesky zerg dropped and killed the island base that zelotito had just made. Twisted was able to separate and take out a portion of zelotito's army, and then run away before reinforcements arrived. Zelotito's powerful force ran through the 3' natural, and he claimed the 9' main for himself. Twisted tried to surprise the mineral only base of 6' and destroy it, but zelotito was ready and warded off the assault.

Finally, the zergling waves were able to kill the weak nexus, but many casualties were suffered in the effort.

Twisted's map monopoly now included the bottom right island, and the mineral only of 12'(not the one he first took -- that was the mineral only of 9). Zelotito only had 9' main left, and actually had an equal psi count to twisted, which is always a bad sign for a protoss. He took his army to the center, and absolutely mauled the zerg forces there. Zelotito succeeded in killing off both 3' natural and main before being stopped by waves of units. Twisted's econ was really hurt by losing 3'. Trying to fix this problem, he re-took 9' main, and also morphed in the top left island and 9' natural. Zelotito stopped the latter 2, and now set his sights on twisted's army. The battle that ensued was quick, and resulted in total destruction of the zerg.

...and the aftermath

It was all but over here, twisted tried to rebuild, but was simply too hurt to continue. He conceded the match.

It was time for twisted to seek his revenge on the extremely zerg friendly gaema gowon. Zelotito did the same build, gates at 10/12 psi. Twisted did the safe-zerg strat on this map, and made a '12 hatch' on his ramp. In a smart move, twisted's scouting drone stole zelotito's gas, almost obliging the protoss to zealot rush twisted's ultra-safe base. Zelotito didn't back down, however, and delayed twisted's expo time significantly with some nice zealot micro. Zelotito teched up to archons/zeal speed, and rushed his zealots into twisted's base. After seeing mutalisks annihilate his zealots, panic mode came into effect. Zelotito quickly placed 4 cannons around his nexus, and built more templars. The mutalisks' reign of terror ended when a dark templar slipped by twisted's defenses and killed his spire.

Down goes the spire, as detectorless mutas look on

Still with no expo, zelotito took his natural before the minerals of his main ran out. He also increased to 5 gateways. On the other side, twisted had switched to a hydra dominated army. Twisted tried to attack the natural, but archons held off the swarm. His protoss opponent proved to be a true brilliant strategist. Luring forces away by throwing a DT up the natural ramp of 5', he ran into twisted's undefended natural, killed the hatchery, and ran away. Twisted tried to attack with his hydra/muta combo, but zelotito overcame it and twisted ceded game 2.

Twisted really needed to get going on nostalgia. For the third game in a row, twisted did a 12/17 hatchery opening, this time to his natural. Zelotito followed suit by 10/12 psi gating again. He became super aggressive this time, sending 3 probes with his zealots for a rush. Twisted made sunkens, but they were destroyed by the zealots. Zerglings were able to hold the waves of zealots off, so no player gained an advantage through the first 6:00. Finally zelotito backed off, and began to tech. Twisted went for a lair again, while zelotito switched it up and made a robotics facility instead of the standard citadel build.

Zelotito went for a citadel right after, and made a shuttle/reaver, as well as zealot speed/dragoon range upgrades to accompany the large zealot/dragoon count he now controlled. Twisted once again tried to be the flying Dutchman, and went for a fast spire build. Also, he took a risky expo at 12:00, a place where zelotito might not immediately search. Zelotito, however, had a scouting probe checking every base, and he found the 12' hatchery. Twisted also took 1', but it was scouted soon after. Zelotito
rushed in and killed 12' with zealots, but was unfortunatlely greeted by mutas and lings. His zealots ran home quickly. Zelotito had also expoed by this point, and controlled a large army.

Twisted bought time with muta harass, and took over 9'. Zelotito brought his army out, and ran through everything twisted had. The hydras were destroyed by masses of zealots and dragoons. Twisted now had no expos left and a waning army size. He quit the game once again.

Game #4: Spain LG)ZelotITO (Protoss, 06:00) versus Netherlands iD.Twisted (Zerg, 12:00)

With the series already in hand, zelotito relaxed a bit for game 4. Twisted had revenge in mind, and gave 110% effort in this game. For the first time, zelotito opted to not dual gate, and instead get gas early. Twisted did a 12/17 hatchery to his natural. Taking advantage of his opponent's lack of early units, twisted also took the 02:00 expansion that had a vital second gas. Zelotito did not make a fast core, he instead expoed to his natural. This move was actually a good one. The natural expo on dahlia has no gas, so saving up gas early was a boon to zelotito's economy. He added a forge, both for +1 weapons and for ramp cannons to prevent hydra rush from walking over him. Zelotito finally teched to templar archives, and had plenty of gas to simultaneously add a robotics. Also, he built more gates as one gate cannot sustain an army.

Twisted took 3' main around the same time, and had a powerful economy.
Zelotito's zealots rushed in and killed 3', but were killed by hydras and lings. He tried to take over his gas expo at 7', while twisted claimed 10' for the swarm. Twisted really began to outplay zelotito at this stage of the game. Lurkers, coupled with the hydras/lings, took down zelotito's new gas expansion, while a 2 lurker drop was able to harass both of zelotito's expos, ruining his econ for a while. While zelotito's army went to stop the lurk drop, twisted placed his army right outside the protoss ramp, sealing the door shut. He broke out, but twisted's advantage was too big now. After taking his gas expansion again, zelotito tried to make carriers. Twisted was too far in front to catch, though, and he controlled nearly every other expo on the map. A 6 lurker drop killed the protoss natural, and endless waves of ground units came and took over zelotito's army.

Zelotito's trademark carriers arrived too late to help, and he surrendered to the dominant twisted.

Game #5: Spain LG)ZelotITO (Protoss, 12:00) versus Netherlands iD.Twisted (Zerg, 06:00)
Map: Hall of Valhalla

Valhalla is a notorious map for zerg. Being an island map, it is very difficult for zerg to combat the reaver/sair combo that most protosses put into play. Both players began with a fast gas. Twisted made a pool, a second hatchery, and then a lair. Being a typical island toss, zelotito made a stargate and air attack upgrade. Twisted countered the sair harass with hydras, while zelotito made cannons at his main, and then a robotics facility. Twisted started to think outside the box in this match. He made a queen, and parasited a corsair. This way, he had a heads-up as to where zelotito would attack. Zelotito defended his main with reavers, and expanded to the base southwest of his main. Twisted tried to set up an expo also, and attacked zelotito's main.

Ensnare was effective on the sairs, but the reavers took care of the hydra drop attack with ease. They traded expos, each killing each other's satellite. Zelotito took the top left, and twisted took the bottom right island. Twisted also tried to take 3', but it was killed. Zelotito's reaver/sair combo was just too powerful. Dispite a good effort by twisted, zelotito took down twisted's last expo and the match ended.
