So what happened with MSI MGA?

The last two days should have been filled with Overwatch in London, but they weren't. What happened with MSI MGA?

The MSI Masters Gaming Arena has hosted quite a number of eSports tournaments already, but they will not be able to truly count their Overwatch Cup as one. After two days of scheduled playtime, only one map was played at the Gfinity LAN center. The tournament that planned on a triple-region clash (between Asia, Europe and Americas) ended as quite a disappointment after two days of technical difficulties.

KongDoo Panthera, Ninjas in Pyjamas, RiseNation and fnatic were all set for the two-day LAN event, but time after time the first match was delayed. The following reasons were mentioned but not confirmed: driver issues, low refresh rate monitors, internet issues. Day 2 started off strong, with the broadcast and first map seemingly going as planned, and the bracket format was changed to make all matches fit into the one day, but soon after the first map technical difficulties shut down the schedule for the rest of the day.

Gfinity, as partner of MSI, did share the following statement after day 2 was finally cancelled:

As a venue and broadcast partner to host the Overwatch MGA 2016 Championship, it is with regret that we have to inform you that the event has been postponed and rescheduled. This comes after two days of technical issues that were out of our control and which are unprecedented. All parties involved share the disappointment of fans, the Overwatch community, the teams, players, and sponsors. Everyone who purchased tickets to the event has received a full refund. To ensure the integrity of and commitment to the tournament, the grand finals will be rescheduled to a future date in 2017.

As stated, the event is still expected to conclude some time in 2017.
