The GosuGamers Starcraft Awards for 2005 is coming to an end, as the very last category gets its winner. Last years biggest surprise has been decided. Ladies and gentlemen, 2005 year’s surprise is Legionnaire!
The last GosuGamers Starcraft award for 2005 – surprise of the year – is given to a guy who probably starts getting some experience when it comes to winning this kind of stuff.
Legionnaire lived a life many gamers all over the world would love to try. He was a professional gamer in the gaming Mecca, South Korea. Although, Playing day in and day out perhaps isn’t always what you want to do with your life. Peter Neate decided to go back to his native country Australia and end his very successful career during 2005. However, there was also WCG qualifications coming up in Australia…
After three months of inactivity the former professional played the national finals, and as most of you should know he was also able to win the whole thing, giving himself the opportunity to go to Singapore and once again fight in a tournament with some of the very best Starcraft players in the world.

Well in Singapore, the fearsome Protoss player went 9-0 in his group, showing his opponents that he wasn’t going to turn his fans (or himself) down. Of course he won his group with that marvellous performance, and went on to play the powerful Russian Terran Advokate in the first playoff match. Another nice performance gave him the win, and in the quarter finals another Terran, Bulgarian LaMeR waited. Once again the Aussie showed why he was a professional player and advanced to the semi finals, being sure to get at least fourth place.
Semi final against Androide
This time yet another Terran player were in the way, trying to stop him. Andriode (picture), who has got a lot of experience when it comes to WCG had beaten one of the three Korean players in his semi final Silent_Control. Control had before that eliminated the big favourite to win the whole tournament – XellOs. Legionnaire ws able to handle one Russian, but a second one was too much. He fell with 2-1 and was playing for the 3rd place against CNSTORM, who had done a great WCG so far.
The bronze medal match started out good for Legionnaire, as he won the first game on Estrella. The Chinese Zerg player managed to take game number two, but when the final game came up Peter could eventually take home the victory.
That great performance was something few – not even Legionnaire himself - counted with after his lack of practise due to being inactive. “With my lack of practice I never expected to do so well in WCG, I was here just for the holiday.”, he told GosuGamers after the match.
